PANEER MAKHANI / BUTTER PANEER

             Paneer / Cottage Cheese is a very traditional item I must say. It’s widely used in Indian dishes. There are various kinds of preparations made with paneer. It’s used in curries, rotis. It’s also used in grilling and to make desserts as well. Normally I make paneer at home as I don’t like the store bought one.

               Today actually I was not in a mood to cook. Usually I cook only when I’m really in a mood to cook. But today was opposite. Actually my sis wanted a paneer dish and she asked me if I could make it for her so that she could take it to class for her lunch. Being a lazy person that I am, she thought I wouldn’t oblige to her wish. But she hardly asks to make any particular dish. She is happy with whatever is made at home. So I decided to make it for her. A simple and easy Paneer Makhani.

Ingredients

Paneer / cottage cheese – 200 gms

Refined Oil – 1 tbsp

Cumin – ¼ tsp

Ginger paste – ½ tbsp

Garlic paster – 1 tbsp

Tandoori masala – 1 tsp

Roasted cumin powder – ½ tsp

Red chilli powder – ½ tsp

Tomato, finely chopped – 6

Salt – to taste

Garam masala – ¼ tsp

Fresh cream – ½ cup

Butter – 1 tbsp

Coriander leaves – to garnish

Method

Step 1

Cut paneer/cottage cheese into 1 inch cubes

Step 2

Heat oil in a wok and add cumin. Sauté it for roughly 10 seconds.

Step 3

Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté it for a minute.

Step 4

Now add tandoori masala, cumin powder and chilli powder. Sauté it for about 30 seconds and then add tomatoes and salt. Cook the tomatoes for about 5 minutes. It will become thick like sauce. That’s the consistency we need.

(note:- if you are not adding tandoori masala, increase the amount of chilli powder)

Step 5

Add paneer/cottage cheese and garam masala and mix well. Boil it for another minute.

Step 6

Finally add fresh cream and butter and mix well. Remove from heat. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Easy and delicious curry is ready within a matter of minutes… I made this in combo with Lachha Paratha
